Succesful outcome from conservation easements
Ten, eleven and fifteen years of joint work, collaborative alliances, fulfilled commitments and successful results in protecting lands with high ecological value are the outcomes of the Conservation Easement agreements that we established with Ejido Luis Echeverria Alvarez in Laguna San Ignacio, Baja California Sur, with Jose Manuel Redo, owner of the Lucenilla Peninsula, Sinaloa, and with ejidos Tutuaca and Papigochic in the Old-Growth Forests in the Sierra Madre of Chihuahua, respectively.
Signing these agreements, with more than 100 people in these three sites, has protected 150,000 acres of forest, jungle and coastal desert ecosystem for over a decade. This has, in turn, been fundamental for the protection of essential habitat for species such as the Thick-Billed Parrot, the Gray Whale, mangroves and hundreds of thousands of migratory birds. Likewise, the success and transparency in carrying out these projects have raised the possibility of renewing these agreements, and even replicating this model in other important conservation sites.
These mechanisms, in which communities and owners get involved and obtain benefits, enable us to fulfill our mission to protect priority ecosystems and promote the development of society in harmony with nature.
