The development of activities for the Common Snook Fisheries Improvement Project (FIP) improved the information system and monitoring of the catches of this and other associated species, and sparked the establishment of two fishing refuge areas, Barra and Palicienta in Boca de Camichin, and the Barritas estuary and Latas lagoon in Laureles, Nayarit.

These results are indicative of the performance from one year of FIP activities aimed at pointing fishing towards sustainability and implemented in the fisheries sector, civil society organizations, government, and academic institutions in the state.

In addition, as part of our goal in 2019 to ensure the progress of the FIP and benefit the riparian fishermen of the site, we will manage the official naming of these fishing refuge areas, improvement of the fishing infrastructure, and commercialization of the snook.

This work is possible thanks to the combined efforts of the Mazatlán National Aquaculture and Fishing Commission, the Cruz de Huanacaxtle National Fisheries Institute, the San Blas and Santiago offices of the National Commission for Natural Protected Areas, the Federation of Riverine Cooperatives, the City Councils of Rosamorada and Santiago Ixcuintla, the Fisheries Engineering School of Autonomous University of Nayarit, the Centers for Food and Development Research of Mazatlan and Tepic, the Cooperative Societies of Llano del Tigre, Única de San Miguel, Ignlogar, Ostricamichín, Alta Mar de San Blas, Los Morillos, Concheros de Los Campos, permit holders, and Pronatura Noroeste.
