The National Effectiveness Evaluation Strategy in the management of federal Natural Protected Areas (NPAs) is an important step in preserving the most valuable elements of the Mexican territory.

This strategy involves the implementation of an internationally-used method to measure the management efficiency of NPAs in northwestern Mexico.

The program, developed by the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas with support from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the United States and Pronatura Noroeste, aims to assess at least eight NPAs in the next three years. The pilot project will be applied in five NPAs in the northwest: the biosphere reserves of Marismas Nacionales Nayarit, El Vizcaino, and Bahia de los Angeles; the wildlife protection areas of Meseta de Cacaxtla and the Islands of the Gulf of California; and the Cabo Pulmo and San Lorenzo Archipelago Marine Zone national parks.o de San Lorenzo.
