A unique opportunity to help the conservation efforts of Cabo Pulmo National Park (PNCP), Baja California Sur, is coming up. From April 3-7, all donations of $50 USD or more received through GlobalGiving’s Little by Little campaign will be matched by a 50% match from GlobalGiving.

The funds raised will provide continuity to the Center for Visitor Services and Nature Interpretation (CAV), which promotes environmental education and responsible tourism to protect the ecosystems and wildlife in Cabo Pulmo.

The Center for Visitor Services and Nature Interpretation has been operating since 2017 and has a coordinator available to inform tourists about the activities permitted in the Natural Protected Area (NPA). There are two museographic booths detailing Cabo Pulmo’s underwater and terrestrial treasures, as well as an open-air amphitheater. The center’s operation allows us to provide effective and timely information to more than 22,000 tourists each year.

Cabo Pulmo National Park was declared a Natural Protected Area in 1995. A unique characteristic of the park is that it is home to the only coral reef in the entire Gulf of California. This reef of more than 7,100 hectares is more than 20,000 years old, making it one of the longest-lived in the American Pacific. The national park is also on the RAMSAR List, which lists wetlands and coastal ecosystems of global importance.

This paradise, as beautiful as it is vulnerable, generates habitats for more than 500 species, providing them with shelter, food and breeding grounds. Among the main threats are commercial development, illegal fishing, pollution, and climate change. To counteract this effect and raise environmental awareness, the Center for Visitor Services and Nature Interpretation is a pillar of the conservation efforts that Cabo Pulmo requires.

As partners of GlobalGiving since 2019, we at Pronatura Noroeste have experienced the support of this crowfunding platform. We now seek similar success to protect Cabo Pulmo National Park for the long term.

Because small actions make a big change, we invite you to invest from April 3-7 through Little by Little for the conservation of Cabo Pulmo.
