Quálitas joins reforestation efforts in the Colorado River Delta

Walking today under the shade of 100,000 native trees in the Colorado River Delta is possible thanks to our joint efforts with donors, volunteers, and organizations, and the creation of binational agreements. Today more than ever we understand the importance of preserving our environment, of ensuring the work continues so that this and future generations have the chance to enjoy the environmental benefits of the Colorado River.

Now are pleased to share that Quálitas, a socially responsible company concerned about meeting the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, joins the efforts of Pronatura Noroeste so that, through its donations, the reforestation areas in the Colorado River Delta, the most important lung for San Luis Río Colorado, the communities in the valley of Mexicali, Baja California, and the cities of the border region with the United States are maintained and grow. The restoration initiative also provides sustenance to local families, in addition to giving a home to hundreds of local and migratory birds, mammals, reptiles, and pollinating insects.

Quálitas develops activities that are linked to meeting and supporting the principle needs of the environment, with the creation of programs that promote responsible management and healthy coexistence in public spaces and roads, as well as promoting the development of sustainable cities and communities.

To reforest these areas, an average of 36,000 native trees are produced annually in the nurseries within the Miguel Alemán Restoration Site and, with the help of community volunteers, the Cucapá and El Doctor wetlands are reforested in addition to the Colorado River Delta, and green spaces are strengthened in areas of public use, like parks and schools in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora and Mexicali, Baja California.

To do this work comprehensively, the coordinators of community engagement in the Colorado River Delta offer workshops to promote environmental culture and to raise awareness of the Colorado River Delta restoration initiative. In the workshops, children, youth, teachers, and interested staff learn how to keep the city and rivers clean and healthy, classify urban waste, and about the impacts on soil and water. Above all else, participants learn about the opportunities we have to understand and preserve our environment, and to have an outdoor space for activities geared to ecological tourism and to promote a recreational space for the benefit of regional residents.

Pronatura Noroeste thanks Quálitas Compañía de Seguros for joining this effort, which will undoubtedly be of great benefit for the communities and their river. We hope that soon we can plant more native trees, which represent the hope of having a living river, together.
