Pronatura Noroeste supported the implementation of three vessels for inspection and surveillance in the Upper Gulf of California in support of the Federal Attorney’s Office for Environmental Protection (Profepa) efforts to eliminate illegal totoaba fishing and save the vaquita in the Upper Gulf of California Biosphere Reserve.

This fulfills Pronatura Noroeste’s objective to increase compliance with fishing and environmental regulations in northwestern Mexico to save this endemic species in the gulf from extinction.

Two new vessels are operating in San Felipe, Baja California, and one in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora.
