On World Environment Day, San Felipe, Baja California, is hosting one of the events of the 2025 National Coastal and Beach Cleanup Campaign. This initiative is coordinated by the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT, for its initials in
Spanish), in collaboration with the Government of Baja California, the local municipality, federal agencies, civil organizations, educational institutions, and hundreds of community volunteers.

During this event, 3.3 kilometers of coastline will be cleaned, with the expected
participation of between 600 and 1,000 people, including government authorities at all
levels, students, teachers, non-governmental organizations, and residents of San Felipe.

One of the focal points will be the dock area, where logistics operations have been
coordinated by Pronatura Noroeste in collaboration with other organizations. The following activities will take place in this area:

  •  Distribution of cleaning supplies such as gloves, sacks, and collection materials.
  •  Hydration stations to ensure the safety and well-being of the volunteers.
  •  Waste segregation and registration, promoting responsible separation practices.

As part of its commitment, Pronatura Noroeste also donated protective gloves to improve the conditions of those participating in the collection and segregation of waste.

Among the civil society organizations that have joined this environmental cause are:

  •  Pronatura Noroeste
  •  The Alternative Fishing Organization of Baja California (Pesca ABC)
  •  The Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans (CEDO, for its initials in Spanish)

Elementary, middle, and high schools in San Felipe have also joined to this cause, with
students and teachers playing an active role in this community effort.

The 2025 National Coastal and Beach Cleanup Campaign is a clear example of the power of the community collaboration to preserve our marine and coastal ecosystems. Today, San Felipe reaffirms its compromise in protecting the environment.
