The North American Bird Conservation Initiative (NABCI) awarded Pronatura Noroeste the “Gary T. Myers Award” for its contributions to the conservation of birds in Northwest Mexico. The award ceremony was held on August 19, 2020 and was attended by several members of the international conservation community.

The nomination, presented by Dr. Jenni Duberstein, Coordinator of the Joint Initiative for the Sonoran Desert said “Pronatura Noroeste A.C. (PNO) has played a continuous, important, and highly effective role for the conservation of birds and their habitat in Northwest Mexico since its founding in 1991. PNOs science-based approach, combined with innovative fieldwork, has established robust partnerships for the protection of critical bird habitats, support for the recovery of endangered species, and education for bird conservation. Working both with grassroots communities and internationally, the efforts of PNO have supported the conservation of bird populations and their habitats on a regional, national, and international scale.”

Bird conservation work represents one of the oldest and most important areas of work for Pronatura, not only in Northwest Mexico, but throughout the country. We appreciate this recognition, which we share with our partners and the other organizations from the National Pronatura System.
