They present advances in Fisheries Improvement Projects and analyze the barriers and strengths in the Sustainable Fisheries axis; 26 collaborators from Baja California, Baja California Sur, Nayarit and Sinaloa participate in the workshops.
Ensenada, BC. For five days, the Pacifica facilities hosted a series of Planning Workshops through which Pronatura Noroeste (PNO) seeks to establish the work strategy for the Sustainable Fisheries axis in the next three years.
Twenty-six PNO collaborators from Baja California, Baja California Sur, Nayarit, and Sinaloa participated in the activities held from December 2nd to 4th, analyzing current projects, identifying challenges, and outlining actions to strengthen initiatives in this area. The workshops were led by Guillermo Hull. At this meeting, Pronatura Noroeste presented the progress of the Fisheries Improvement Projects it leads, along with the strategic lines that support the Sustainable Fisheries axis. This activity allowed the team to gain a detailed understanding of ongoing initiatives and their impact on fishing communities.
These workshops also aimed to present the projects and work streams related to the Sustainable Fisheries program, identify key challenges and barriers, recognize achievements, design the initial steps for a three-year work strategy, and strengthen team cohesion.
During the sessions, the main barriers affecting the development of the Sustainable Fisheries program were identified, including opportunities for improvement in internal communication and coordination, as well as challenges in building working relationships with fishing communities.
The analysis also highlighted significant strengths, such as the team’s diverse skill set, technical expertise, and the willingness of fishing communities to collaborate with Pronatura Noroeste.
All these elements were key to develop concrete actions for improving sustainable fishing strategies in Baja California, Baja California Sur, Nayarit and Sinaloa, to be included in the 2025 work plan.
On December 5th and 6th, situational analysis by region was carried out, as well as leadership training and activities oriented to reinforce teamwork, contributing to cohesion and collaboration among participants.
The participation of Jaime Roberts Vildósola, Vice-President of Pronatura Noroeste in Baja California, who provided the venue for these planning workshops, was fundamental to their success.
