Without a doubt, the use of digital platforms is one of the most powerful tools for environmental training for teachers and students. With these applications -many of them free and accessible on almost any device- we have provided important content and teaching strategies for teachers in our region. This effort has a direct and indirect impact on the student population and, therefore, on local communities.
In 2021, within a confinement due to the global coronavirus pandemic, millions of teachers and students around the world experienced distance education. In this context, we at Pronatura Noroeste took advantage of this positive inertia of technological learning to launch our own Educational Platform. More than ever, our digital courses and activities were accessible to a greater audience of children, youth and adults, as well as teachers and academics.
Nevertheless, we did not limit ourselves to offering the Digital Platform only to schools. Our environmental education and training material also reached fishermen, community leaders, decision makers, promoters and environmental educators throughout the region.
Some of the courses available in our Educational Platform are:
“Basic Course for Bird Identification”, to promote ecotourism and knowledge of the birds of our region.
“Shorebirds and wetlands: Teaching strategies for conservation”, which is aimed at teachers, volunteers and environmental educators.
From September 2021 thru March 2022 these courses and workshops were used by 1,479 people, with a total of 6,612 visitors on the Educational Platform. Among them, there was a group of 47 participants in the shorebirds and wetlands course, with 10 of them completing all the activities and the final project to obtain the certificate of approval.
We invite you to get to know our Educational Platform, and to collaborate in the great task of conservation education.
